Wedge Specifications: Lofts and Gapping

Wedge gapping is the one part of the bag where the right answer is fully determined by something you already own, and where almost everybody gets it wrong anyway. The pitching wedge at the top of your iron set sets the whole ladder. Until you know its loft, 52 / 56 / 60 is a guess dressed up as a convention.

A driver loft that suits your speed is the wrong loft if your attack angle is steeply negative, and a wedge ladder is only correct relative to the pitching wedge above it.
